The Mattern vineyard is in the Talmage Bench area of Mendocino. It was planted in the 1930’s on gravelly loam soil. The old vines are both head-trained and dry-farmed by the Mattern family who live on the property. The vineyard is certified CCOF Organic and Demeter Biodynamic.
Soft and supple, the wine tastes like wild strawberry, violet, hibiscus, savory sage, cassis, and boysenberry. It’s a pure joyful expression of old-vine, California Zin.
